What this is
A volunteer-run aggregation site for the 26 August 2026 Bhote Koshi / Trishuli flood. We pull public data sources into one place every 4 hours and show their figures side by side with provenance. People may also store a private report, but its contents do not enter the public-data pipeline.
What this is not
Not an official source, and it must never be treated as one. Not a missing-persons registry: the Nepal Police and Red Cross run those, and we point you to them at the top of every page. We publish observed status only: no hazard predictions, no danger ratings for villages.
The corridor animation
The 3D corridor on the home page replays the breach as an illustration, not a hydraulic model. Its clock follows the front as it was actually recorded (DHM river watch, USGS, ICIMOD): collapse 08:37, Timure 08:45, Betrawati 09:20, Galchhi 10:28, Devghat 13:00. The starting lake volume is the figure China’s Ministry of Water Resources published (2.0 million m³); the bridges on the path are the ones the HOT OSM damage survey recorded as washed out or damaged. The houses, buses and camps you can drop in are a toy to make the scale felt. Nothing in it is a forecast.
Where the numbers come from →Why the numbers differ
Each agency counts something different: NDRRMA counts everyone reported out of contact; the Police count confirmed missing-person reports; MoFA counts foreigners reported to embassies; the Tourism Department counts tourists on agency manifests; the PM’s portal counts every report submitted, including duplicates. We show them all rather than choosing one.
Data handling
Original reports, contacts and files stay in the private archive. The automated pipeline does not read them or derive public figures from them.
Reports are not sent to an AI model or automatically passed to Nepal Police, MoFA or another organisation. Use the official channels on this page for urgent reporting.
Every public disaster figure carries its source and an “as of” time. The separate submission-activity counter is labelled as this site’s activity. We never blend sources into an invented figure.
“Withdraw” marks a report as unavailable for any future review or handoff. The report and files remain privately stored; withdrawal is not deletion.
Sixty registered sources (government, UN/humanitarian, geospatial, signals, news and community), each shown with a reliability grade and its last fetch time. Figures that a report merely quotes from someone else are labelled as quotations and never used as headline numbers.
Models may help process public news and public-source aggregates. No family report, contact, attachment or family-derived field is sent to a model.
Who runs it
A volunteer team of Nepali and international engineers, data people and translators, working with Nepali partners. No agency affiliation, no funding to disclose, no ads, no tracking beyond an anonymous visit counter.
